I NEED YOUR HELP!
So for those of you who don't know, I'm going back to school to get my masters in graphic design and although school has yet to begin, I have received my first project. I have to design/create something, anything, based on the theme of leadership. I have some ideas in mind but I'm curious to read what you think of that word. In the comments section please type in the first thing that comes to mind. It can be in one word or in a paragraph. Help me get an A+!!!!

Queen Nzingha of Angola :) Cleopatra and Nefertiti, Wangari Maathai and Edith Sirleaf, and my good friend Christine. All these women have one thing in common; Strength of character. That's the basis of leadership :) hope this helps xoxo

Hi,
I always think about something I heard that says:
"to be the leader of all, is to be the servant of all"
and I think people really overlook those aspects of service and responsibility (to the people they hope to lead) when they start thinking they might like to have the leader's role, (or at least title!).
P.S. I love your blog.

a million words come to mind when i think of leadership; courage, responsibility, vulnerability, strength...the list can go on. I heard this quote one time and it says that to be brave does not mean to be without fear, but to be afraid and still act through it. I think that bravery is a huge part of leadership. To be a leader you have to have faith in your self and faith in the people that you are trying to lead. You have to have an idea, one stong enough to drive you. I dont wanna go on a huge poetic rant but... you know what i mean. :) hope ive helped. Im so in love with your blog and you in general. Im no longer afraid to go to art school :) Peace!

to me, the first thing that comes to mind is courage. Courage to execute that idea or solution, and to have courage to not only see it through, but to also deal with the outcome, good or bad. Hopefully good!

For me, leadership is about trust and winning the hearts of the people you lead. It's about strength because people will naturally follow a strong leader. Also, a leader must be willing to serve before she expects others to serve her. She must also have a positive outlook and attitude. The other words that come to mind are:
Character
Trust
Competence
Passion
I hope this helps.

Living with fearlessness, having the flexibility to roll with life's circumstances, and being attuned to those following and assisting you.

I always think of the phrase "lead by example", and if you are a leader, to spend time thinking about what you would want in someone who was leading you. Integrity, sense of fair play, honesty (in strength and weakness), caring, strong.

When i think of leadership, i think of this piece called on the issue of roles by toni cade i believe. Anyway in the essay she talks about how change starts with you and the way you live your life, how you run your home. So when ever i think about someone changing the world i think about simple things like are they raising there children to be open minded, are they polite to strangers, things like that....

I've been rackin' my brain on this too. I've been thinking to take it in a less serious direction though. I was trying to think of leaders that weren't necessarily associated with politics. Some ideas were Leading ladies of silent film, leaders in the punk rock scene, stuff like that. It might be fun to do something with fashion and design something with the leaders of a certain style or decade. I don't know, just trying to switch up the idea of leadership and make it a little less heavy.

Hi ! I read somewhere that the difference between management and leadership is that management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success, while leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall.
Hope this can help !
