Out of Town

In the near future OutOfTown.tv will be featuring a new series where they partner up two city-folk and transplant them to a small town for that good ole rural experience. The idea is really funny and the first segments feature Najwa Moses and webisode partner, Sandra, in Kutztown, PA. Check out the trailer and clips here.

Rahil's Health & Beauty Tips: Eyelashes

Banner_final
Eyes say so much without saying anything! Whether you're tired, happy, sad or angry they will give it up!  So, I decided that since mine usually say "you're tired" I wanted to improve that. One way to do that is add two extra steps to my morning routine.
Step 1. Curl eyelashes:  make-up artists swear by Shu Uemura's eyelash curler ($18), heat the curler for 5 seconds with your blowdryer, make sure it's not too hot than apply to the base of the lashes and hold for 20 seconds.
Step 2. Mascara: Use brown for a more natural look, black to really enhance your eyes or blue for a change. One of the best and my favorite mascara is Maybelline's Great Lash. Apply to upper lid lashes holding wand horizontally from the base and let wand rest on lashes for a few seconds to enhance curl, make sure to apply second coat before first dries to avoid clumping. Apply wand to lower lid lashes vertically, and make sure there isn't an excessive amount of mascara on the wand to avoid the spider eye look. I liked the understated improvement!

Martha Stewart Crafts

I just learned about Martha Stewarts' new line of crafting supplies at Michael's from fellow blogger and classmate, Melissa. I haven't seen them in person but love the idea. The website gives you a small glimpse of what to expect and great step-by-step projects you can download, print out, and add to your crafting-idea binder. Get that money Martha!

Beach Cottage in Blueprint Magazine

Aren't the colors used in this beach bungalow just gorgeous?! I love how the theme is carried throughout the entire home; the red is a perfect contrast to the ocean blue that mimics the water just outside the front door. Speaking of home decor, I'm having such a horrible time decorating my living room. It's coming along slowly...I take that back, it's not coming along at all. I ignore it by just staying in my workroom and hoping that maybe an interior design professional will magically appear and make everything better. Images from: Blueprint Magazine

New York Times Magazine Fashion Shots

All I can say is WOW, the fashion photography slide-shows on the New York Times Magazine site are fabulous. There are so many to see, be sure to take a look at them all here. There's also a great little feature on cute boutiques in Philly.

Fly Girl of the Week

Fg38

Who? I'm Robyn, age 30
Where? I currently reside in Omaha, Nebraska, but I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago.
What do you do? For a living? Right now I'm a slave to the man, but my passion is my website Warm With Love. I'd love to be doing that full-time. What's "that" you ask? It's a website devoted to charity crafting, and hosts what will one day be the largest search-able archive of worldwide charities accepting handmade goods. Craft something and want to give back? Head to my site to find a charity that wants your stuff. Don't see your favorite charity listed? Contact me and I'll get it added!
What inspires you? I'm inspired by summer days, my kitties, helping others, diy books of all kinds, my friends and family, etsy, knitting and crocheting, journaling, yoga, amazing haircuts, and flickr.
Why are you fly? Because I choose to put others first in my crafting life, whether that be friends, family, or helping out others around the world. I'm fly because whenever I can I find a way to give back to others, and I'm fly because I do so while working a "day job" and not having a ton of money. I may not have the best "hipster fashion" but it's cuz I'm too focused on givin' out the love!
Advice: Follow your heart, even if you have to work late hours and maybe not even receive that much recognition. If you're doing what it is you want to be doing, you'll always find a way to make it work. Always seek out as many like-minded people in your community as you can, whether that be online or in person. Oh, and don't be afraid to pimp yourself. A Fly Chica is never afraid of the pimpage. It's the best way to get people to hear about your art, writing, website, or whatever else!

By the way, grad school is kicking my butt already!...and it's only been a day! While I sit here typing this at 3:23 am I am printing some designs due tomorrow! Sigh...

Also, just want to say thanks to everyone who dropped a line about your thoughts on leadership, it was VERY helpful. I'll keep you posted on the project.
