Georg Olden
Why haven't I heard of this guy before?
One thing that really frustrates me about my discipline of choice, graphic design, is that there's not enough diversity. Far too often I am the only African American designer, or minority period, in a classroom, at a design conference, or in the workplace. So when I meet or learn of other minorities in the field, past and present, I am always very excited. Just yesterday I learned of graphic design pioneer, Georg Olden (1920 - 1975). During his career at CBS he designed some amazing television graphics when the idea of TV was still fairly new. He went on to work at the advertising agency, BBDO, and later became the first African-American to design a U.S. postage stamp. Are you kidding me? I've been in graphic design for nearly 10 years and I'm just now hearing about this guy? Shame, shame, shame!! To learn more about this talented and might I add handsome designer, click here.

Yes Georg Olden should be recognized as a design icon for his contibutions to the field of Graphic Design!

Hello,
I too have wondered why I did not know of Georg Olden. He accomplished so much during his short lifetime.
Today, I placed a video of him on YouTube that I think will be of interest to you.

I came across your blog doing a search for Georg Olden. I am researching one of his ancestors, Rev. Nelson G. Merry and just found out yesterday that he and his sister, Sylvia Olden Lee are part of Rev. Merry's family tree. Thank you for sharing this information about Georg.
