Day Two

In developing ideas for my project I pulled these images for inspiration. Lately, I've been really interested in embroidery, rag dolls, and cross stitch samplers. I showed these in class to help support my concepts of designing either plush toys or embroidery kits based on graphic design.

I thought it would be fun to share some color explorations from my sketchbook. I went through several magazines to cut out various colors and put them together to make an interesting palette. I have a lot so I will share them all in the days to come.

Fly Girl of the Week

Who: Janick Gravel, 26
Where: I am from and live in Montreal (Quebec, Canada). My first language is French! :)
What do you do? I work for myself, from home, on my two companies. First, a graphic design company named Fonetik. And second, I create a jewelry line named Nea. I also write a blog *almost* daily about creative finds.
What inspires you? Textures and materials inspire me in my work for Nea. I love using unusual mediums to make unexpected pieces that can be worn. As for graphic design inspiration, really, about everything inspires me. It can be music, books, photography, objects... Anything! That’s another reason why I like writing my blog, I like discovering new things that I want to share with people, and it also fuels my everyday work.
Why are you fly?  I think I’m fly because I create. I admire everyone that creates, whatever it is. Creativity is such a mysterious and fabulous thing. Oh, and also because I have really long hair! When your hair is half as long as your body, now that’s fly. Lol.
Advice: Accept what you got, girl! Whether it be having curves, being good in math or drawing the most beautiful portraits, be proud of what you can do and run with it. Everyone has exceptional capabilities, it’s just a matter of embracing and working with them.

Belts

Aside from a beautiful handbag I think belts are perfect accessories. They can be worn with everything from a dress to jeans, over a cardigan or under a jacket. So versatile, feminine, and simple.

Carol LeBaron

I'm taking a fibers class this semester and enjoy being introduced to textiles artists like Carol LeBaron. I dig her colors in these pieces.
