Fly Girl of the Week
Who? Andrea Heimer, age 27
Where? Currently residing north of Seattle, originally from Missoula, Montana
What do you do? For work, though I would certainly never consider it so, I am an artist and designer. Though I've always been artsy I started off my professional life as an arts and entertainment writer. It didn't take me long to realize I'd rather be making art than writing about it (writing is hard work!!). Around that same time I also noticed a serious lack of original affordable artwork. it just didn't seem like there were many options for people who wanted to start an art collection but didn't have a ton of cash to do it with. In 2006 I set to work creating small bright paintings and a very user-friendly website to showcase and sell them. The paintings were very well received and by using my website as my own personal gallery I was able to keep the prices reasonable. I started off painting with acrylics and moved to silk screening last year, now using a combination of the two. I'm pleased to have been featured on great sites such as Apartment Therapy, Juxtapoz, and Domino. My new project is a big one: my husband and I are joining forces to create a design firm for printwork, logo design, and identity branding. Look for us soon!
What inspires you? Tons! My husband inspires me because he is incredibly creative and also completely supportive. Also old magazine ads, rags to riches stories, boat rides, DIYers, horseback riding, the ocean, other artists out there doing their thing.
Why are you fly? Well, I've never thought too much about this but I'd have to say I'm a doer. I want to do something, I try like hell to do it.
Advice: Surround yourself with smart, helpful people. Be an honest critic of yourself, but give yourself credit when credit is due. Take many many photos along the way.

I love your art - its beautiful and your advice.
