We All Scream for Ice Cream

The Franklin Fountain is an old-school ice-cream parlour here in Philly. Their homemade ice-cream is really good especially in flavors like cotton candy, coconut and peach (which is made from peaches of local Jersey farmers) and you can get any flavor made into one of their unique sundae concoctions. I usually stick with my favorite, which is peanut butter. One of my uncle's used to always say, "You'll never see anyone unhappy eating ice cream." That is so true, because Rahil, her son (Little Pooh) and I could not stop smiling with our afternoon ice-cream treat.

Frida Kamau-Hathorn

A fellow blogger introduced me to the remarkable work of Frida Kamau-Hathorn. I love her use of muted pastels which compliment the complexions of each figure. Thanks Paco!

Fly By: MissBruno

Fly_by_bruno

You are the ladies behind the magic that is MissBruno, tell me more. Who, what, where?

We are sisters and we design a line of scarves and so-called dresses. Shirley and I (Marjory) are based in Brooklyn but we’re from Haiti.

What experiences prepared you to create MissBruno?
Our individual and shared experiences are so varied, we’re health nuts, we’ve lived both close to nature and in the most concrete of cities. We were also raised in a very traditional Haitian upbringing which is another way of saying strict. And when you’re living under really strict rules, it’s amazing how creative you get to circumvent those rules! All of these things helped shaped MissBruno and our take on how to ingeniously live wherever you are. I think the people that are attracted to our clothing also live creatively under so many different circumstances. They appreciate beauty and real functionality and this comes naturally to them. There is no pretense, just an extension of who they are. {{Read more here.}}

Shopping in My Mother's Closet

Here are some new-old pieces I discovered in mom's closet while I was home visiting. I love the braided belt and can't wait to rock the red pocketbook. She must've been hiding them from me because I don't remember seeing these and I am always going through her old stuff.
