I remember when this exhibition opened at the Studio Museum in Harlem and regret that I never made time to see it. Artist Chris Ofili painted 181 6" x 9" portraits of men and women as a private exercise for ten years. I was able to find a few to share. I love the detail, the various hair-styles and the rich colors. I would love to have a few for my home. Learn more about Chris Ofili's work here.

The Snyderman Gallery is tucked away on a quiet street (Cherry Street, I love streets named after fruits!) in th middle of Old City, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Philly. When I visited this past weekend I was in awe at what I found. Currently, they are featuring the work of Xiang Yang. There were many wonderful pieces of his in different mediums but I was struck by Yang's amazing fiber installations. The colors were beautiful and I loved how the transparency of each piece added a surreal dimension to the work.
For my art history class we had to go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and I saw this amazing installation by Carlos Amorales. It's called Black Cloud, and although it makes me itch a little, I think it's really beautiful. Each moth is cut from black paper and strategically placed to give the feel of a plague. What I really loved is when you left the main room and walked into other rooms throughout the museum, you would see a small cluster of moths linking you back to the installation.

Harper's Bazaar did a little feature on the fashion forward artist, Erté (. He contributed to the latter part of of Art Nouveau and helped define Art Deco.
