Little Michael

Sorry for the late start, after a late night/way too early morning of designing logos I woke up feeling a little congested and sluggish, so I'm trying to take my time getting posts up.

I just purchased Wax Poetics' magazine tribute to Michael Jackson, I saw this cover and had to buy it. Then I looked inside and found tons of articles about his life and family, the infamous Gary, IN and stories from people who've worked with him. I can't wait to sit down with tea and read it from cover to cover.

Neon Vinyl + Paperclips

Manu is known for it's beautiful necklaces made of paperclips covered with neon vinyl. But I had no idea Lauren Manoogian, the mind behind Manu, also created sculptures and installations with a similar technique.

Hair Inspiration

I'm working on a project where I am creating artwork for a natural hair salon in Germany (which I'm soooo excited about). After some sketching and research I decided I wanted to pay homage to the elaborate hairstyles worn by African and African-American women. I went to the Philadelphia Central Library location to check out their print and picture files and found these. They are perfect for the ideas I have in mind.

Super Busy + Beautiful Women

I've been neglecting Fly for the last week because I've been crazy busy (more on that later), but one of the reasons I've been away is because I've been glued to my computer writing a research paper on Kara Walker. So I was browsing around the internet for more info on Walker when I came across these beautiful images of two Brazilian women on this site. I wish there was more info on the these photographs, either way these women are beautiful.

Frug

There's an intersting color trend I want to post about a little later, but here is a great example of what's going on. Inspired by computers, color codes and the story of Frug Nelson this book from Fabian Jocehn Kanzler uses pattern and layering to express color. Color play inspired by the computer and video, and layering colors is something I'm seeing a lot of lately.

Urban Outfitters Annual Report 2006

I saw this on my friend's desk and drooled all over it. Urban is probably one of the few places that can make an annual report look this fun.

Children of the World Illustration
