The gallery space of one of my favorite stores in Philly, Indigo Arts, has moved to the Crane Arts building, so I went by to see their latest art collection. Here are some beautiful barbershop signs from West Africa.
Here's a really cute notebook featuring a different leaf on each page. You can write down your thoughts in the center of the leaves, around the border, or all over. Love it! Buy it here.
Lately I've been buying so many books related to design and illustration. Here's my latest purchase, Rolling Paper Graphics, a beautifully designed book featuring cigarette rolling paper packaging and labels from the late 19th century and beyond. I truly adore the typography and decorative elements.
Amazing screen-printed designs for posters, invites, and other ephemera from Philly artist Tory Franklin.
This wonderful book features the women of Mexican calendar advertising. I love the beautiful rich colors and textures of the paintings, I definitely recommend this book to admire and to add to your ephemera book collection. Buy yours here.
I was driving down Broad Street here in Philadelphia and saw this poster on a bus shelter. I must say seeing it in such a large scale in all it's bold and inspirational glory gave me goosebumps. I think it's incredible how Obama's message is even inspiring some great poster designs. Poster by Shepard Fairey at Obey.
Back in my New York living days I would frequent the Hell's Kitchen flea market on a lazy Sunday afternoon. One such day I came across a pair of Simple Sew Rag Toys, a duck (pictured below) and a young maiden. I thought they were beautiful but a little expensive. So I tucked them under some fabric hoping no one would find them while I continued browsing the market. Well, when I came to my senses and returned to the stand someone had purchased the young maiden and left the duck. I'm glad I at least got one. I just love the simplicity of the design and the idea of putting together your own toy.
The Rag & Bone blog did a wonderful post on the many posters designed to promote Barack Obama's presidential campaign. Definitely click here to see more.
