I'm taking a fibers class this semester and enjoy being introduced to textiles artists like Carol LeBaron. I dig her colors in these pieces.
Here are some pretty pillows from The KoKo Company. I love the embroidery and screen-printing details.
A classmate shared with me this lovely book on quilting, Denyse Schmidt Quilts. The photos and projects are wonderful, and I love the fabrics and stationery you can purchase on the related website.
Speaking of quilts, I am currently working on a project where I am designing a quilt and need help on finding a quilter. Any suggestions? Specifically in the Philadelphia area? About how much can I expect to pay for a quilt that's about 5' x 7'? Are there any questions I need to consider when talking to a potential quilter? Any help would be fantastic.
Lovely textile designs from artist and designer, Ana Laura Perez. Be sure to click around the site to see her wonderful accessories and illustration.
Last week I went to the Philadelphia Central Library and was quite embarrassed when I realized I hadn't been in a library in years. (That's because I'm a bookstore freak!) I was a little overwhelmed with not knowing where to begin, but eventually I got my groove. I left the library with nothing I went in looking for, but I found a few fabulous books with some images I'd like to share. Here are some beautiful textile patterns from African Prints by Shirley Friedland. Check back later this week for other great books found at the library.
Just when I thought I missed New York a little bit everything went straight to hell! I was excited to be back in town to check out the fabulous Hable Construction Home Market party where their new designs and pieces were being launched. After seeing the delicious pillows and textiles in the beautifully styled room I went up to the rooftop with friend and fellow blogger, Karen from Clothes-Pin, to sip on some luscious mango mojitos and chow down on some finger foods (we positioned ourselves right where we could be the first to taste, I'm sooo greedy). It was then that I was thinking, "hey, I miss this city." Then Monday night came the terrible rain storm that flooded the subway, and although I was told the Q train was making all regular stops, I found myself stuck on a very slow train NOT headed to my destination in Brooklyn where I was anxiously trying to get my hair done. It was disgustingly hot on the subway platform and I felt gross from all the sweating I'd been doing. Yuck! But luckily I made it off the train and out of New York. I'm truly happy to be back home.
Despite all that, I really enjoyed seeing what the lovely ladies at Hable have been up to and catching up with Ms. K.
Check out this site I discovered called FreeSpirit, which features swatches from different textile designers.
Yesterday I received an email update from Shopbop.com featuring their latest dresses with vintage inspired patterns. In the email, I loved how they enticed you with circled close ups of the different patterns. Here are a few of my favorites dresses from the collection. Click here to see them all.
