As Creative Director of Verve Music Group (Universal records), Hollis King is known for his award winning art direction for album covers such as Verve Remixed and Verve Remixed 2. When I graduated from college and was looking for work he was one of the few people in New York that took the time to look at my portfolio. I will never forget that day, because the strap on my BCBG shoes broke right as I was walking into Universal Records. I had to switch to my Gap flip flops, what a first impression. Anyway, he didn’t care, and they weren’t hiring anyway, but it was great that he took the time to review my work and give me some direction. We always stayed in touch sharing updates about what’s going on in our creative world. This time on our regular update he shared with me some beautiful drawings he did, capturing people on train. He’s been doing them since last year and now has thirty-five books filled with these drawings. I have quite a few to share so check back to see more, I will be posting them at least every other day.
