On the Black Nerds Network blog I saw these wood rings from Good Wood. The zebra print one is too fun.

Who? My name is Kiandra Jimenez, and I'm 32 years young!
Where? I live in a big, small city: Moreno Valley...but was born and raised in Los Angeles.
What do you do? I spend part of my days at home, homeschooling my 6 and 4 year old, taking care of my home, gardening and baking; some of my days are spent hand making leather handbags for my etsy store to inspire women to live authentic and peaceful lives, and the rest of my time is devoted to my dreams of creating art more than not, using my hands creatively, writing something meaningful on my blog...or day dreaming on clouds. I would love to one day publish a book of my poetry, words, thoughts, art...and even some of my favorite baking recipes and gardening secrets.
What inspires you? I'm constantly inspired by life and a myriad of different things. Most often, I'm inspired by simple things that always seem to bring me back to love. I love love and find that I'm most driven when I recognize the way love pushes me (and others) to create, whether with words or color...or the way love inspires us to move, write, think or be. Sometimes I find inspiration in memories and conversations gone by...colors in my garden or in the sky. Words and unspoken truths... the way clouds move across the sky...and I'm constantly awe-struck with the beautiful women of Africa and the ways they paint and adorn themselves.
Why am I fly? I'm fly because I embrace life with my heart first! I love unabashedly...whether it is the women of the world, the color yellow, words and the act of writing, painting and all the colors of the rainbow...the clouds in the sky, the earth and the creativity and nourishment that can be grown with nature...I love and I love hard. I live passionately. The flyest part of me is the me who wears her heart on her sleeve, shows the world her vulnerability and believes that "the truest expression of love is art." This is the me who creates, writes and loves hard..she's fly.
Advice: Don't waste your time following what's not in your heart...the purest part of you is that which is created, born and nourished in your heart...follow it. Don't be afraid to be vulnerable, to be in love with yourself, your craft, your art, your surroundings and the world. Embrace fear...work hard at your passions...live authentically (even when its painful)...be and speak your truth...and revel in your own possibilities!

This weekend I was visiting in Maryland and went to a very busy but quaint Mexican restaurant in Silver Spring, called Mi Rancho. As you know, I love to eat and was so prepared to take it down. I stuffed myself with margaritas, chips and guacamole, lobster, and fajitas. Good food, good time.

I dig these mobiles of colorful and organic shapes from PukaPuka. They remind me of the mobiles created by sculptor Alexander Calder combined with some of Matisse's inspired cut-out shapes.

The IvanaHelsinki brand is awesome and I adore this cute dress from their latest collection featuring animal inspired prints. Check out the neon colorway of the dress at the bottom of the page. It should be in my closet so I can wear it out this weekend!

My lovely friend Bernardo passed on Agatha Ruiz de la Prada's site to me some months ago, but when I went to feature it the website was under construction. This week I was so excited to find that it was up and running. Yayy, I could finally share the beautiful work of this amazing fashion brand. Bright colors, funky patterns for adults and children, and quirky experimental shapes make this line a great resource of wonderful inspiration. The site is great, even better if you speak Spanish, and just so full of color. These pieces are from the museum section. Not sure if they are costumes or just sculptural fashion, but either way I think they are incredibly fun. I really appreciate designers that can play with the function of clothing.
