In a candid moment while taking a break from these booty shaking fashionistas and fashionistos I took a moment to have a "me me me" moment. In this photo I am rocking a long cheetah top from H & M, but the stand out piece I'm wearing are from the LA based brand Bullets & Bows. The co-owner sent over some earrings right before I left for NY. What I love about these Bullets & Bows earrings is the combination between the masculine edge of the bullet and beautiful femininity of the bow. I'm in love and saving up my funds to purchase every single color bow. [read on]

New York Fashion Week calls for “all black everything,” especially if you are a working fashionista. It’s neat, professional, and of course flattering. The majority of people I was around this week and saw on the street were dressed in all black. What I love about “all black everything” is how people frost it with their own personal style. How do you make your black different from everyone else’s black? Depending on the event some people complemented their black ensembles with a fur, great blazers, or like me a silk cheetah dress shirt. Check out a few of these fly fashionistas and fashionistos rocking their signature black looks.

What do you do? I’m a plus size model and I work with youth, I'm also Work Study Coordinator. (I help place students in work stages and motivate them to see their futures as bright with endless possibilities.)
I have aspirations to be a dynamic TV host. I love and am the happiest behind a microphone. Being on TV is exhilarating for me, it’s all I’ve ever wanted.

What inspires you? Life, making my realities come to fruition. My mother inspires me to keep pushing and to give everything my 100%. Music inspires me to be creative (like R&B, reggae, soca, and soul music); especially music with meaning and tight production. A good, well written book also inspires me to write my thoughts.

Why are you fly? I’m fly because I realized I’m good, nah, I’m fabulous as I am! I have learned to accept my body and things about me I previously thought were flaws. I’m fly because I’m juicy and proud of it.  And, I am determined to have other young women feel as great about themselves as they should. I am confident and strong and I make a difference. I’m fly because I have ambitious drive and determination to reach my goals of being on TV a platform to make people feel good about themselves and be their best self possible.

Advice: Be yourself. Trust your instincts and have a solid and intimate core circle of friends. Have faith in yourself and in your beliefs. Try hard, and don’t accept second best. Research your goals and make a way to make them happen. You can and will do it; make it happen!

Julian Bevan's Inspiration

A few years back I came across the motion graphics for the 2004 VH1 Hip Hop Honors and instantly became a fan of Eyeball NYC; the motion graphic design and ad studio responsible for putting the package together. Most recently when preparing to show the project to my students I discovered it was Julian Bevan who was the creative hand behind the designs.

Julian Bevan's Sketches

On Julian's portfolio site you can see the entire process from inspiration to final video. It was so interesting to learn that the final look of the 2004 Hip Hop Honors came from his initial brainstorming sketches, where he was just doodling ideas. For the first round he presented graphic rich storyboards, but the creative team told him to develop an idea based on the doodle/graffiti style in his sketchbook. The result was a very textural design with a fun, classic hip hop flavor. Check out the animation after the jump.
